Can You Draw More Than Once for the Same Question?
Some traditions include repeated steps while confirming a draw, but that is not the same as discarding a completed reading. If the situation has not changed, pause and read the first result before asking again.
Confirmation is different from starting over
Lungshan Temple’s Guanyin-lot procedure may require drawing again when divination blocks do not confirm the selected number. That repetition occurs inside one ritual before the final lot is accepted.
It should not be confused with receiving a completed result, disliking it and immediately starting over. Other temples may not use the same confirmation step at all.
Why immediate repetition can confuse the question
If the question and circumstances have not changed, several rapid draws can produce several texts competing for attention. It becomes easier to select the most comforting result rather than examine the first one.
An unfavorable result is not, by itself, proof that the draw failed. Senso-ji tells people who receive kyo not to fear it, but to respond with patience and sincerity.
Pause before asking again
First read the whole text, identify one practical caution, and allow time for the situation to develop. This is editorial guidance for reflective use, not a claim that every tradition requires a fixed waiting period.
There is no reliable universal number of hours or days that applies to all fortune-stick systems. At a physical temple or shrine, its own instructions take priority.
When a new question may be reasonable
A new draw may be easier to distinguish when the facts have materially changed, a different decision has arisen, or the earlier question was actually several questions mixed together. Rewrite it as one clear matter.
Do not keep drawing to obtain permission for a dangerous, illegal or high-stakes action. Medical, legal, financial and safety choices require relevant evidence and qualified advice.
